Azul Macaubas is a blue quartzite with cream, grayish and maroon fragments. In addition to quartz, Azul Macaubas contains approximately 15% dumortierite (a blue mineral from the silicate group) and therefore in scientific terms Azul Macaubas is defined as dumortieritic quartzite. It also contains kyanite, a dark blue mineral belonging to the group of aluminosilicates. It is to this very unique combination of minerals that Azul Macaubas owes its deep blue color. Azul macaubas stone is mined only in one place in the world - in Brazil. Its deposits are located in sunny mountainous regions near the city of Macaubas.
